Atlas Ward has recently commenced work on the famous Western International Market in London, one of the country’s leading wholesale, fruit, vegetable and flower markets and second only to Spitalfields in turnover.
The project was awarded to them by Main Contractor Bowmer & Kirkland on behalf of Kier Property Developments Ltd acting as development partner with the London Borough of Hounslow.
Atlas Ward Structures are undertaking the design, fabrication and erection of this flagship project.
The development consists of over 800 tonnes of structural steelwork and measures in excess of 215,000 sq ft.
The market is located close to London Heathrow Airport, off the A312, just north of junction 3 of the M4. It turns over £300m pa through its 80 traders and supplies a wide range of fresh produce to wholesale trade customers including hotels, restaurants, grocers and greengrocers, florists, schools, hospitals and prisons.
Working alongside the London Borough of Hounslow, Kier Property will deliver new state-of-the-art facilities to replace the obsolete existing premises.
The major regeneration will include a new produce hall of 136,000sq ft and flower hall of 38,000sq ft with associated maintenance and entry buildings.

The scheme, which will protect the future of over 1000 jobs, will give the 70s-built market a major boost, enabling it to continue to meet EU food hygiene regulations and raising its status to one of the most modern in Europe. |
